Toronto Got #desiFIED Again

desiFEST is a not-for-profit, grassroots organization established to foster and grow the large South Asian Arts Community in Toronto and across Canada.

desiFEST
has become an annual highlight not only for the South Asian community, but for the city of Toronto as well.

Recognized as Canada’s largest South Asian music concert, desiFEST brought 12 hours of entertainment to Yonge-Dundas Square creating a platform for artists to showcase their talents.

The concert was hosted by desiFEST founder SatsB, who kept the crowd engaged, entertained, and hyped throughout the day. The concert provided 19 acts of entertainment to a crowd of 30,000+ attendees.

The artists were truly the highlight for fans as Urban, R&B, Bhangra, and Bollywood music filled the downtown streets. This year saw an overwhelming number of Toronto talents, with only one international artist. Sarah T Drum Guru showed off her percussion skills before revealing her rich and soulful voice.

Next up was the young and talented duo Synsational who with their smooth vocals, made many young ladies swoon. Urvah Khan and her band brought a heavy dose of rock to shake things up before U.K. native Arjun melted hearts with his widely popular songs.

Toronto native and desiFEST alumnus Parichay closed the show reaching a pinnacle in his career. Artists incorporated live bands, choreographed dance routines, and memorable costumes into their performances, which ended with time dedicated to taking pictures and signing autographs for their fans.

A concert like this is nothing without the support of the community and sponsors. TD Music (presenting sponsor) joined in the activity by bringing their
TD dancers who fused classical Indian dance with Hip-Hop.

Frank’s Hot Sauce, also a sponsor, let the audience take the stage in a
Hot Steppers dance contest. Seven dancers were selected from the crowd to show off their moves and the crowd cheered for their favorite dancer. The top 3 dancers went home with Frank’s Hot Sauce gift baskets.

desiFEST is proudly supported by the government of Ontario, and the Ontario Arts Council.

Lastly, the overall success of desiFEST is nothing without the support of the community. The unconditional support for the stage and featured artists create a strong momentum and movement that we hope to repeat and grow in 2014.
