The series celebrates Asian and South Asian Heritage Month
, bringing together emerging local artists with legendary figures and communities from across the GTA to celebrate their musical heritage. Building on the success of the past decade, the 2013 Series features eight diverse and exciting presentations, beginning with world-renowned masters: Maestros in Concert - Zakir Hussain & Shivkumar Sharma, returning to Toronto as a duet for the first time in 5 years.
At the other end of the career spectrum, the 2nd Annual Asian Sound Slam takes place at Revival. A showcase for emerging talent, it includes a career development workshop and networking dinner. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt’s concert at the Trinity St Paul’s United Church will see the return of the Grammy Award winner, with his innovative slide guitar. Music for Red Snow brings the exquisite sounds of China; sarod maestro Rajeev Taranath will captivate classical music lovers; Next Music from Tokyo showcases the best of new Japanese rock at the Rivoli; Ramneek Singh celebrates Mother's Day with her remarkable voice; and Iran’s Kiosk brings their stinging social commentary couched in a blend of rock, jazz and blues to the Mod Club.
