This past Labour Day long weekend MyBindi
sent Aneel Rangi as our very own ambassador to check out the NetIP 'Dare To Be You' Conference
. Here's what his experience was like:
NetIP’s 22nd Annual Conference took place in beautiful San Francisco, California, from August 30-September 1, 2013.
I had the privilege of attending as MyBindi’s ambassador. A special thank you to them for their generosity! MyBindi.com is North America’s largest online South Asian community. The theme of this year’s conference was ‘Dare to Be You’. And, what could be more inspiring than encouraging passion, achievement, and fun? Delegates from NetIP chapters across North America enjoyed informative business sessions, along with fantastic social events. It was a wonderful opportunity for young South Asians to get together, learn from their peers, forge new connections, and renew existing networks.
San Francisco was a fabulous place to convene this event. Breathtaking natural scenery, incredible vegan restaurants, and the Golden Gate Bridge are just a few of the unique features of this amazing city. The conference was held at the Hilton Union Square, in downtown San Francisco. Union Square is a historic one-block public plaza and major tourist destination, surrounded by a variety of shops and hotels, offering world-class shopping with designer wares. Getting to the hotel from the San Francisco International Airport was quick and easy, with one of the numerous shuttle buses that are always on stand-by at the airport.
The conference kicked off with a welcoming reception for delegates in one of the hotel ballrooms, where the organizers warmly greeted delegates, explained the theme of the conference, and outlined the activities that had been planned. Subsequently, delegates were invited to an after-party at the Sky Bar & Lounge, which offered spectacular views of the Bay bridge, brilliantly lit against the night sky. Delegates enjoyed a full club experience, with trendy decor, dance music, and food and beverages.
The next day, a variety of business sessions were convened. Topics as diverse as string theory, landlord-tenant law, finance, non-traditional careers, relationships, media, and others were presented by fellow South Asians, seasoned experts in their respective fields. Delegates were treated to inspiring insights and guidance in their areas of interest. It was a wonderful opportunity to directly interact with professionals, learn from their experiences, even gain career advice. The day capped off with a party and fashion show at the trendy Minna Art Gallery, just a few blocks from the hotel.
On the final day of the conference, delegates enjoyed a brunch, more business sessions, and a gala dinner that concluded the festivities. It was a wonderful event for the South Asian community, and created an invaluable opportunity for knowledge-sharing, networking, and learning. Next year, the conference will be held in Atlanta. Hope to see you there!
