In February of 2009, Christopher headlined
the entertainment (dubbed “Info-tainment”) at the Pragyan ’09
Technology Festival, held at one of India’s most prestigious universities:
the National Institute of Technology. In the city of Tiruchirapalli
(Trichy for short), James was able to experience India for a few days
before performing his stage magic show to over 1,500 people. Christopher
is delighted to now be returning to India in September of 2009 to perform
his stage magic show at the Techniche ’09 Technology Festival, held
at another prestigious school in Guwahati, India: the Indian Institute
of Technology.
1. What inspired you to enter the
world of Magic?
I remember watching magical television
specials when I was young and always thinking “I want to do that!”
I started learning magic through books and videos, but it was finding
a mentor who was willing to teach me that helped me grow faster as a
performer. I have been performing for over 10 years now and I enjoy
each show.
2. Who were your role models growing
up?
I remember watching David Copperfield
and Lance Burton growing up. While they were the only magicians I was
really exposed to growing up, they continue to be huge role models for
me today and throughout my entire career.
3. In your opinion, is magic a natural
talent or "learned"?
A big part of my show is letting people
know that everyone can create magic, including the magic they see in
my show. With the right amount of training and practice, we are all
capable of performing magic. In fact, that is one of my favourite things
about the art.
4. Tell us about some of the shows
you've done. Have you traveled around the world?
I have had the pleasure of performing
all over Canada and the United States. In February of this year, I was
fortunate enough to perform my stage magic show for 1,500 people in
south east India. It was my first trip to India and I had an amazing
time! Since then, I have recently booked another stage magic show in
north east India for 3000-5000 people and I look forward to returning
to experience more of the country.
5. Where do you see yourself in
5 years? Will magic always be a part of your life?
I know that I will always want to perform
magic and I intend to. In five years time, I would like to be performing
my magic on a world tour. I also hope to have completed some stunts
I have planned involving a wild cobra and wild great white sharks.
Testimonial:
“Students, staff, faculty, and pretty
much everyone here are still raving about your stage magic show. Most
of the 1,500 people who attended your show have said that it made our
entire event and that this was our best Pragyan ever!”
