  Restaurant Review: Tandoori Flame
By Amreen Omar for Mybindi.com

I'm very much a city girl, but Brampton's Tandoori Flame could tempt me to move to the 'burbs! Last week found me and some family members out in Brampton on a snowy afternoon. I'd heard about TF from a colleague and we decided to try it out. At 11:30am, we were the first to hit the buffet and the food was freshly cooked and steamingly appetizing. And the variety! Where do I begin - a tandoori pizza stand, over 20 salads - many with desi flare, a vegetarian section, a tawa section with freshly grilled meats and vegetables, a chaat stand, a non-veg section, a pakora section, an Indian dessert section and a Western dessert section. Wow. We didn't know where to begin. There was way too much to try everything so I sampled a few of the items that most tempted my palate.

I started with a moong daal salad, the Afghani tikka (known in my family as a reshmi kebab), a gobi pakora and some chutney. Apart from the salad being a little bland (but very fresh), the appetizers were delicious and I had to stop myself from taking more in fear of not being able to sample the mains.

For my main course, I focused on the vegetarian items as this is what I love the most. Also, many of the downtown restaurants are so saturated with the usual "lamb curry/butter chicken/ tandoori" menu items, that I was eager and excited to try some different fare. The food had a definitely Punjabi flare, and I sampled the khadi with pakoras (mildly delicious with melt-in-your-mouth dumplings), palak paneer (I know I already used the adjectival phrase "melt-in-your-mouth" but that accurately describes this luscious fresh cheese), daal makhani (made with rajma just the way I love it), and aloo gobi (perfectly spiced and not too oily or mushy). Embellished by pilau and a garlic butter naan, the meal was excellent and I was only disappointed at my physical incapacity to eat more.

I ignored the 20 flavours of ice cream available along with the pastry buffet. Insteady, I took some succulent strawberries for dessert and a scoop of the fresh sooji halwa. The halwa was to-die-for, and I could fully taste the ghee - which taunted me to take a second helping (I resisted the urge).

Being a buffet, the meal required little service. However, the staff were polite, responsive and congenial to a tee. We paid $10.99 each for lunch, which was a real deal given the amount of food we ate. I'd definitely go there again, and even took their card for catering purposes. I've heard that there's an hour plus wait on weekends, but the weekday lunch buffet was busy but not overcrowded.
