Leather weathers in style

The wealth of leather choices this winter takes fashion to new
heights - now handcrafted and embellished to perfection. The luxury
of the material that clings to curves, takes months of tanning,
polishing and weathering to reach its premium texture has no parallel.
And this year, across the ramps, across the globe, leather is
huge.
Leather jackets, trousers, skirts, bags or as trims for furs
and tanks come in several colours besides brown, beige and black,
and in some countries encompasses snakeskin, crocodile, cowhide
and lambskin. The spring summer trends of 2003 shift towards subtle
colours with details like burnt edge finishes and hand painting.
On top of the charts: surface development, fine texture and high
detailing.
Celebrating the season of leather, Hidesign brings its third
exclusive leather store to Bangalore with a fashion show at the
Leela Palace on Friday evening.
Even at the Lakme India Fashion Week this year leather was news,
right from designers like Rohit Gandhi to Rohit Bal. As designer
Suneet Varma puts it, "A leather outfit is like a second skin
and cannot look the same for two people. This is that time of
the year where you can choose from bomber jackets, three button
Tom Cruise styles and distressed leather jackets."
Next year, the trends in leather could shift to soft and mid
tone ice colours, reds, greys and earth shades, the emphasis again
on individual hand stitching and ethnic themes.
"The interesting aspect of leather this season, is the fact that
brings an aura of luxury and is now a great trim and a stylish
accessory too," adds fashion consultant Prasad Bidapa who is also
organizing the show.
