Bollywood Sing-A-Long: Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

Directed by Karan Johar, Starring Shah Rukh Khan (Devdas), Kajol, Rani Mukherjee, Salman Khan, Anupam Kher (Bend It Like Beckham), Farida Jalal. Hindi with sub-titles.
For the first time ever watch your favorite Bollywood film, and sing-a-long to the tunes with the lyrics that are handed out! So bring your vocal chords and get ready to "perform" with the stars on the big screen at this world premiere Hindi Film Karaoke event!

Shambhu Das, trained in sitar by legendary Pandit Ravi Shankar, he taught sitar to ex-Beatle George Harrison and was part of the team for the 'Wonderwall' album. His group 'Shanti' presents a fusion of Indian classical and western music accompanied by dancer Aruna Haider.

The diverse musical backgrounds of Suba Sankaran (voice, piano, percussion), Ed Hanley (tabla, percussion, voice), Rich Brown (bass), Debashis Sinha (percussion) and George Koller (bass, esraj, voice), converge.

Joanna de Souza draws on the strengths and personalities of the company members, her musical background, western life experience and 24 years of Kathak study as inspiration for these pieces that manifest the flux and ever-evolving nature of this classical art form.

Devis and Divas: Meghana is a sitar player and singer, intertwines traditional and contemporary sounds and wonderful vocals to present work from her album "Indocarbonated Funk".

Gunaseelan Dance Company
This Toronto based ensemble presents folk dances from Tamil Nadu & Rajasthan through dance techniques based on classical Bharatnatyam.

Parmela Attariwala
Parmela Attariwala, alternative classical violinist fuses east and west, music and dance with various friends. Parmela recently launched her second CD, "Sapphire Sky".

Coalition for Agencies Serving South Asians (CASSA), South Asian Womens' Centre(SAWC) and Alliance for South Asian Aids Prevention(ASAAP) present

Chillin' In Your Brownskin I: Bollywood in My Backyard (screening and discussion)
Produced by the South Asian youth group and youth steering committee at SAWC, this short film follows a young girl on her first day at high school. It is an animated look at the barriers which newcomer youth face; language, conflicting cultural ideologies, notions of "fitting in," inter-generational issues and stereotyping. It works through a violence-prevention framework and provides resources and information for empowering young women.

Chillin' In Your Brownskin 2: Desi's Unraveled:
A CASSA and SAWC collaboration that interweaves and integrates a commentary about discrimination and violence prevention using dance and drama. A workshop and dialogue will follow the artistic plateau presentation.

This exhibit seeks to present artwork by SAVAC artist members which critiques, celebrates, reflects upon, undermines, and re-interprets Bollywood, Hollywood, Lollywood and Tollywood in its all its many dazzling facets. The artists are:
