Panorama India
Panorama India, established in 1999,is a not-for-profit umbrella organization, that helps unite various cultural associations and groups project a common identity based on their Indian heritage. Panorama India celebrates "Unity in Diversity". It provides a platform for all Indian cultural associations, groups, and individuals to exhibit and showcase their arts and culture and foster a better understanding between India and Canada.
Canada is a land of multi-culturalism, a land in which its people are encouraged to retain and promote their cultural heritage. Indo-Canadians in Ontario are a large, prosperous, and vibrant community, consisting of various regional groups, each with its own arts, culture, and language. Many of them have established their own individual cultural organizations. That's where Panorama India comes in.
Panorama India, while being a proud catalyst between the Indian and Canadian cultures, celebrates three main events through out the year. The Republic Day of India celebration, India's Independence Day, and the Diwali celebration. Republic Day is celebrated as cultural show whereas the Independence Day celebration includes a parade along with a spectacular cultural show. Each cultural show includes a variety entertainment program from different regions of India, a display of its arts and crafts, and sumptuous food stalls. The Diwali celebration at Queen's Park is a unique event that presents our rich heritage which we share in with the Premier's Office.
Exhibiting the generous spirit of the Indian culture, Panorama India has donated funds to many worthy causes over the years. In January of 2000, it donated $100,000 to the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) for its South Asian Gallery, made a sizable donation of Rs. 2 Million to the Prime Minister of India's National Relief Fund in 2001, generously gave $10,000 to the William Osler Health Center Foundation in Brampton in 2002, and donated $5,000.00 towards the Tsunami Victims' Fund.
Panorama India invites you to participate in INCREDIBLE INDIA - A Celebration to be held on August 10th, 2008 at Yonge & Dundas Square (across from the Eaton Centre in downtown Toronto). With the support of the Consulate General of India we will be celebrating India's 61st Independence Day. The festivities will begin with a 2 km parade through the streets of downtown Toronto, and will culminate in a day long festival of music, dance, food and fun.
The Parade will include colourfully decorated floats and the long procession with drums, dance and representation of the various states of India. The celebrations include participation from several Indo-Canadian organizations. Together, we showcase our "UNITY IN DIVERSITY."
