CORSA - Central Organizing Resource for South Asians

The Corsa Foundation has been around for number of years and has consistently received huge amounts of community support for their fundraising and youth scholarship initiatives. The mission of their dedicated and highly motivated team of volunteers is to work with the South Asian community, not-for-profit organizations, government and crime prevention officials to help South Asian youth lead MEANINGFUL and successful lives and to promote the positive work and achievements of South Asians

Every year, CORSA puts an event together called Kohinoor Ball which is their signature fundraising event and entertainment gala for the year. Funds raised have supported CORSA's Youth Scholarship program, as well as non-profit community groups tackling youth related issues such as gang violence, substance abuse, inappropriate peer association and poor academic achievement.

This year, the Kohinoor Ball took place on Saturday, March 8th at the Sheraton Wall Centre and was a huge success. Those in attendance included: Premier Gordon Campbell, Attorney General Wally Oppal, CTV News Anchor Renu Bakshi and West Vancouver Police Chief Kash Heed. The event program was fun, classy and very entertaining (especially the Hypnotist act at the end of the night!). It was great to see all the South Asian professionals from various industries show their support for CORSA.

The recipients of this year's CORSA Foundation youth scholarships for $1,500 are: Devraj Chaitanya, Nurtaj Mostofa, Nikhita Dogra, Naina Sethi and Alykhan Kaba.

CORSA Foundation is donating a total of $36,500 in 2008 to the following organizations/programs:

    * UBC Faculty of Education
    * Kwantlen College
    * Surrey RCMP
    * Doxa Entertainment
    * Red Cross
    * 5 Scholarships each valued at $1500
    * Rasode Soccer Tournament - "Anti Gang Anti Violence"
