Camp Dosti

Summer time brings with it a sense of relaxation and fun for children everywhere. They look forward to, two months of freedom from stuffy class rooms, quizzes, tests, projects, and the ever dreaded homework. Yet, talk to the average student two weeks into his/her long sought after vacation, and they will spin for you a tale of absolute boredom. Children will complain about the heat, how long the day is, and the lack of activities for them to enjoy around their neighborhood. Suddenly two rare months of beautiful sunshine and opportunity, aren't enjoyed, as they should be, but on the contrary are lamented. This is where Camp Dosti comes in.

Camp Dosti is a children's day camp put together by Higher Grade Learning Centre and South Asian Arts. It was created with the express purpose to help add structure to a day which, for children who are used to 10 months of school, can seem foreboding and long. From 10 A.M to 4 P.M students are lead through fun activities related to various school subjects, such as Math, Language Arts, Science, Socials, and Life Skills. They also spend the afternoon doing crafts, playing sports, and learning to dance. A highlight of Camp Dosti is the month end student recital during which the children perform a small play which they themselves put together during the course of the month. Last year parents were delighted to see a funky version of the classic Snow White set in a village of Punjab!

Research has proven that students who don't keep their minds sharp over the summer holidays take months getting back into the swing of productive learning when school starts up again in the fall. On the other hand, children who are mentally active over the same period of time return to their studies with a great a sense of preparation to learn and are often ahead of their classmates

During their time at Camp Dosti children don't even notice that most of the activities they are enjoying are helping to keep their minds fresh and alert for school, which comes around quite fast when you're having fun. It is this exact fusion of light academics, and expedient arts that has made Camp Dosti such an immediate success with parents and children alike.

The camp runs twice during the summer, once in July, and then again in August. Due to an overwhelming response for the camp last year, Higher Grade Learning Centre has started accepting early admission this year. Call now to book a spot for your child today!
