“DiwaliFest is not only a great cultural celebration, it also highlights the way Canadians embrace multiculturalism,” says Mihiri Tillakaratne, Brand Manager of Canada Dry, the event’s presenting sponsor.

Organized by Purple Integration, the festival activities began last Friday night with a variety of cultural displays and activities, games, sampling and a photo booth. On the 32-foot stage, there were Dhol performances.

“Diwali celebrates light over darkness and good overcomes misfortune, it’s only fitting that we support the less fortunate in the community on this occasion”

Performances continued on last Saturday and Sunday – an exciting dance competition featuring 6 teams competing for awards and cash prizes, Bhangra performance, Fashion Show, Kathak Classical Fusion dance and Aakash Band.

Famous characters – Minion and Shrek – will also make an appearance to meet with children. Plenty of refreshments were available at the Canada Dry and Ferrero Rocher sampling stations. There are also free giveaways from CIBC and Chatr.

Every visitor got a chance to enter into the lucky draw with fantastic prices such as CIBC commemorative silver coins, Wiser gift packs, Bramalea City Centre gift cards, Moto e phones from Chatr, VIA Rail trip for two to Quebec City, etc. Over 30 prizes were available to be given out throughout the weekend.

Knights Table, one of Peel Region’s busiest food banks, will once again be the event’s beneficiary and visitors are encouraged to bring non-perishable items to help those who are in need.

DiwaliFest would like to acknowledge the support by a number of sponsors including Canada Dry (Presenting Sponsor), BCC (Venue Sponsor), CIBC (Platinum Sponsor) and OMNI TV (Exclusive TV Sponsor).
