“Bollywood Monster Mashup
brings together cultures from across Canada to create beautiful never-seen-before fusion performances,” said Vikas Kohli, Producer, BMM. “This year, we will be creating exclusive and innovative music and dance performances by amalgamating some of the richest cultures in the world. We will be taking Bollywood beyond anything anyone ever imagined.”
As part of this cultural fusion in collaboration with Mosaic Art Council (MAC), BMM is joining forces with Kaleidoscope Chinese Performing Arts Society (KCPA) to bring together virtuoso musicians playing traditional Chinese instruments with brilliant Indian singers and top notch western musicians. The result is the BOLLYWOOD DRAGON ORCHESTRA, which will have singers Ferzana, Himanshu Merchant, Tanveer Badar, and Prita Chhabra belting Bollywood hit songs with a Chinese twist!
Another exciting fusion performance will be presented by the Divine Heritage Artistry dance troupe. Led by Lopa Sarkar, BMM will be premiering GLOBAL RHYTHMS, which is a music and dance show that incorporates Bollywood dancing, flamenco, tribal and belly-dancing styles alongside special feature dancers Angelica Scannura, Samara and the Serpentina North dancers.
“Mississauga Arts Council has always believed in encouraging art in all forms and across all cultures,” said Linda Thomas, Executive Director, MAC. “Bollywood Monster Mashup is a perfect platform to carry out our mission and ensure that the cultural richness and diversity of Mississauga is preserved and portrayed effectively.”
On August 24, in addition to the Bollywood Dragon Orchestra, Bollywood singing sensation Kamal Khan will be headlining the festival. This is just one of several surprise main stage performances yet to be revealed. Bollywood Monster Mashup 2013 will be a day filled with free activities, including the Clorox Bollywood Mashup KidZone, Dandiya in the Square, the Bring Your Own Bollywood photo-booth, a FILMI Bollywood Monster Mashup Film Festival, the TD Bollywood Mashup Dancers, “Pieces” (a Bollywood skit), the Absolute Yellow art installation and the MONITOR 9 video art festival and wine reception. The Bollywood Monster Marketplace has been expanded with more amazing food and unique crafts from around the world.
This year, BMM has gone bigger and better with expanded programming and a number of pre-events lined up prior to the main show on August 24. On August 19, Mississauga Arts Council's (MAC) 2013 Media Summit will kick off with a red carpet and a special preview of the BMM Film Festival happening August 24.
