Dance and culture at Masala! Mehndi! Masti!


The largest multi-disciplinary South Asian Arts festival outside of South Asia, Masala! Mehndi! Masti! has celebrated annually for 7 years presenting South Asian culture and South Asian inspired culture in a professional, fun and mainstream environment, downtown Toronto (originally at Harbourfront Centre and now at the CNE grounds).





July 26, 1 pm BLC Artist Café
Urvieves Dance Collective

Founded in 2007 by Zeena Dotiwalla, Sabra Frankel, and Paromita Kar, the Urvieves DanceCollective explores intercultural and interdisciplinary choreographic creations. The group's works may be seen as edgy and experimental; rooted in nature, playing with the whimsical, the surreal, and the everyday. Their nouveau genre of avant-garde artistic choreography will totally amaze you as you drink in their cutting edge arrangements.



July 26, 7 pm Bandshell Stage
Dance--Puja Amin and The Sanskriti Arts Ensemble

Puja has worked with some of Bollywood's premium personalities including Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Lata Mangeshkar. Her students are vibrant, dynamic, graceful and have an immense passion for dance. The school recently won several awards at the International Dance Challenge in Toronto. They also recently held an extremely entertaining and successful Bollywood dance class at Dundas Square as part of Luminato's festivities.




M!M!M! DesiLit Stage

Focuses on the work of writers (fiction, poetry, non-fiction), storytellers and spoken word artists. There will be programming for adults and children, including interactive writing activities for all ages, stellar performances and lots of contest giveaways.




July 26-27, Better Living Center
MMM Artist's Walkway

Curator Vishal Mishra has arranged a visual treat with oeuvres from an incredible line-up of international artists including Anand Channar (UAE), Anu Vittal (Mississauga), Candice Lee (Hamilton), Harbans Mody (India), Parveen Kaur (Oakville), Rohan Bhogal (Toronto), Sheetal Sehgal (Toronto), Vishal Mishra (Mississsauga).




Royal Ontario Museum

There will be an amazing display of South Asian crafts from the Royal Ontario Museum at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.









Health and Wellness Centre

The Canadian Cancer Society and Heart and Stroke Foundation will feature information on healthy eating South Asian-style and physical activity through yoga and Bhangra dancing. Information about sun safety and cancer screening will also be available.

Planning on getting married? Then you are in the right place! Masala!Mehndi!Masti!'s mavens will set you on the right path. An amazing array of booths to give you all the necessary information to make your momentous occasion a 'Bollywood dream sequence' one!
