| Hindu Youth
Conference (HYC) 2007
The theme of this year's Conference - 7 Insights into
Hinduism - explores several unique facets of Hinduism. The annual
Hindu Youth Conference will be held at the Bahen Centre, University of
Toronto on July 7th, 2007. Proudly presented by the United Hindu
Federation of Canada, the event is organized by young Hindus
for youths and young adults and will focus on answering many
commonly held questions that today's generation has about Hinduism.
Last year, the event was successfully held at OISE at the University of
Toronto (St. George Downtown campus). With over 300 youth participants, the
gathering was a true celebration of Hinduism. The hope is to build on that
success year over year, and establish the HYC as an annual event in Toronto.
The workshops and speakers will focus on such topics as how Hinduism can
play an active part in their 21st century lifestyle, similarities between
Hinduism and other religions, the Hindu perspective on current issues and
many other exciting topics. The goal is to not only educate participants,
but to further their interest through thought-provoking subjects that will
leave delegates motivated to continue their learning experience.
The daylong Conference aimed primarily at youth and young professionals
between the ages of 16-35 seeks to enhance the knowledge of participants
with respect to the customs, traditions, and the rich history of Hinduism.
Today's youth have unique questions and opinions about Hinduism, and a forum
that is designed specifically for them will encourage interest in the Hindu
religion, spark debate and engage them in discussions about the areas of
Hinduism that are important to them.
Continuing from last year, Conference delegates will be provided with
breakfast, lunch and a networking event. The evening event will include
presentations from organizations in the community along with an arts and
cultural display. The entire day is intended to provide a unique learning
experience but also an opportunity for participants to network and build
lasting relationships within the community.
Interested participants can visit www.hinduyouthconference.ca to
register online for the event. The site also includes more details about the
event, including a full list of the day's topics and speakers.
Topics that will be discussed include...
Contemporary Hinduism
Contemporary Hinduism seeks to explore the depths of the Indo-Canadian
experience by delving into topics that impact our daily lives as Hindu Youth
in Canada.
Hinduism and God
A look into different relationships with God. Even within Hinduism, God is
One but the paths are many. Come learn about the God that is within!
Hindu Symbols and Their Significance
Ever look at a puja thali or a Mandir and wonder what it all signifies?
This workshop will help solve those "mysteries".
Hindu Practices/History
A very informative session on Hindu practices that will cover everything you
ever wanted to know but were afraid to ask.
Hindu Ties With Other Religions
Is the Golden Rule the only similarity between religions? We explore the
foundations of Hindu philosophy and how they relate to other religious
philosophies worldwide. In addition, the practical aspects of everyday
inter-faith interactions will be discussed.
Hindu Society
What makes Hindus a distinct society? Discussions about our heritage, our
languages, and our future will serve to spark discussion about the success
and unity of Hindu Youth.
What is Hinduism to Me?
An entirely interactive session that takes into account everything learned
in the day and serves to give every participant a voice.
