Canadian Premiere - 'When Kiran Met Karen'
FILMI in partnership with MUKTA Advertising is proud to present the WORLD Premiere of 'When Kiran Met Karen'. Anytime an Indian filmmaker attempts to work outside his culture's perceived moral boundaries, controversy is sure to surround him and his film. When Kiran Met Karen is no different. Bold and engaging, this Sapphic love story is set in New York City, where beautiful Bollywood starlet Kiran (Chriselle Almeida) suddenly stops a press conference for her latest film because of incriminating questions. She rushes outside and hunts for a cab, finding one already occupied by the sultry Karen (Kelli Holsopple), a novice journalist who convinces Kiran to ride with her. She also sweet-talks the sensitive star into giving her an exclusive interview for the magazine she works for. Confused but intrigued by this alluring woman, Kiran invites her home -- where she resides with her music mogul fiancé -- to spend the evening chatting. Sparks immediately fly and the duo throws caution to the wind, unable to prevent their torrid affair. They share an intense passion, but is this a one-night stand, or does Kiran have the courage to follow her heart? Not many directors have attempted to break out of Bollywood, but Manan Singh Katohara bravely pushes borders and isn't afraid to bring lesbianism to light in Indian culture. The film also features the music of talented artists Deadbeat Darling and Katherine Almeida.

'Shot In Bombay'
A fast-paced, feature-length documentary which goes beyond the tinselly glamour of Bollywood to expose the industry's rather less alluring underbelly. The Mumbai film industry has long been rumoured to be associated with crime syndicates and the connection was publicly established when in December 2006 one of India's superstars, Sanjay Dutt, was convicted of possessing firearms which were linked to India's 9/11 - the day in 1993 when Mumbai suffered 13 terrorist bomb blasts in the space of two hours.
'Shot In Bombay' is an exposé of not only 'by the seat-of- your pants' movie-making in Mumbai, but also of a booming metropolis where film-making is the biggest business in town. It shows us what life is like for all involved, from the stars to the stunt-men. Along the way, this documentary also touches on the wider questions facing Mumbai's citizens: what rights do suspected criminals have and does the justice system favour the rich?
The Director, Liz Mermin is a London-based filmmaker from New York specializing in off-beat social-issue documentaries on international topics.

Canadian Premiere - 'Kissing Cousins'
Amir (Samrat Chakrabarti), 29, is a heartbreaker. Literally. As a "relationship termination specialist," providing "dumping services" for disgruntled daters, Amir spends his days delivering bad news to unsuspecting lovers across Los Angeles and retrieving his clients' belongings. Though Amir claims he is "just the messenger," the job has
made him hard-hearted and, as a result, he is the last bachelor in his group of friends. This becomes crystal clear on his 30th birthday, when his friend Tucker tells Amir he can no longer be the Best Man at his upcoming wedding because he and his bride Tina want someone with "better relationship karma." Amir returns to his family's Bay Area
home for Thanksgiving where he is reunited with Zara (Rebecca Hazlewood), his charming and beautiful cousin from Britain whom he has not seen in twenty years. With the prompting of Amir's parents, Zara hitches a ride with Amir back to LA. Along the way, Amir tells her about his friends and their "bachelorism" and she is sympathetic. When she meets them, she surprises everyone, including Amir, by introducing herself as his "girlfriend." Before long the scam is in full swing as Amir and Zara go on "couples outings" with his friends. An undercurrent of sexual tension develops between them as the charade comes dangerously close to going too far. Will his friends find out
the truth? Will Amir fall for his own cousin?! Or will he become one of his own "victims?" Written, directed and produced by Amyn Kaderali.
