What is the Festival of India?
Ratha Yatra, the Festival of India, originated thousands of years ago in Jagannatha Puri, India, where it is still observed today by thousands of dedicated devotees. The festival consists of a parade that pulls three large chariots, housing the beautiful deities of Lord Jagannatha (a form of Lord Krishna), His older brother Balarama, and younger sister Subhadra.
The festival commemorates a journey taken by the siblings some 5000 years ago in India and is now celebrated in all major cities of the world.

Thousands of people congregate to pull the chariots down some of the world's most well-known streets: Oxford Street in London, Fifth Avenue in New York...and none other than Yonge Street in Toronto!
This year, Toronto will be celebrating its 36th annual Ratha Yatra festival on July 19th and 20th.
The festival kicks off with a colourful parade down Yonge Street amidst amazing kirtan (mantra rock!). The festivities then continue on Centre Island where there will be a showcase of ancient Vedic spiritual culture, free vegetarian food and entertainment.
In the heart of downtown Toronto, come experience Vedic India with a contemporary twist - you won't want to miss it!
