RBC desiFEST 2008
RBC desiFEST made history in Vancouver on Saturday, May 3rd, as the first all South Asian Canadian music festival in Vancouver. The 10 hour music festival was held in the prestigious Gastown area featuring 22 acts with over 100 artists from the Vancouver area.
The enthusiasm among the participants could be clearly seen. Water St. was closed down from West Cordova to Cambie. Despite the rain coming down in the morning, RBC desiFEST was a resounding success. By 1pm in the afternoon, the rain and clouds cleared up and Water St. was immediately packed with a variety of people from various ethnic backgrounds.
The location attracted a lot of locals, tourists and people from all over Lower Mainland. RBC desiFEST showcased a wide variety of South Asian and South Asian-inspired performances throughout the day.
Artists included: Camille Arneja & Priya Kumar, Vancouver Fusion Band, Sabrina Saran, Entouraas, Footedge, Cre8tive Arts, Cassius Khan, CHIN, Sunny Matharu, UBC Girlz, United Bhangra, A-Slam, Bombay Sapphire, En Karma and Jagua, just to name a few.
An online contest will determine which artist/band will be "Vancouver's Ambassador" at the desiFEST grande finale in Toronto on Saturday, May 31st.
