DJ Profile: DVS
by Omar Azhar

Who, what, where? Did anyone hear that? DVS, the name that has sky rocketed Toronto's nightclub industry. And just who is the man behind the name? Recently I got a chance to speak to the person behind this infamous title. DVS is no ordinary disc jockey, this man has climbed the ladder two steps at a time to get where he is. Known to be one of the busiest D.J's in Toronto, his music to entertains house/trance lovers, hip hop/r & b freaks and sometimes even a little touch of that desi rhyme to satisfy all needs full capacity event.

DVS took to the stage under the influence of the pioneer DJ Sunshine. Sunshine has been a major influence on DVS's career, and you can hear this influence kick into his styling on the turn tables. As one of the most sought after D.J's, he has not let it all get to his head and remains very pleasant and humble.

One message that DVS wanted to relay in the talk we had, was that he has seen the Desi community recently taking a much bigger part in the night life in Toronto, but there is still a major lack of respect when the people do hit the clubs. A lot more incidences of violence and racial tensions have sprang up. There seems to be less and less respect for the D.J's and the promoters. Which is one of the reasons it is very hard for a new D.J to hit a club and get a stable gig. DVS's message; "keep it clean and don't lose respect for others around you. After having played at all the major clubs in Toronto such as infinity (3 years), Static and now at the Guvernment and Plush nite club on Fridays and Saturdays, the only thing left for him to do is release a Hindi remix album.

Well don't look so surprised and look too far; the man said it's in the works. So, after a few years of no production releases under the DVS label, he is coming back to the market with a Desi twist.

It is hard to go wrong with DVS. If he's playing you better show up. You won't be disappointed.
