Madhuri Dixit returns to Bollywood
After a break from films, Madhuri Dixit is getting ready to go back to work on Shaji N Karun's film, Suryamukhi. Karun is a critically-acclaimed filmmaker from Kerala, who won the prestigious Palme d'Or award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1988 for his film, Piravi. Karun's film is about the relationship between renowned Indian painter, Raja Rajiv Varma (1848 - 1906) and his muse, Ganga, the subject of many of his goddess-themed paintings. Varma, a married man, eventually fell in love with his muse, and their illicit relationship caused an upset among religious clerics at the time. Ganga ran away from Mumbai to escape her critics. The movie will begin from this point - as Ganga looks back on what she has left behind.
Varma achieved acclaim for his depiction of scenes from the epics of the Mahabarata and Ramayana. His work fuses traditional Indian artwork with European techniques. Varma had a penchant for painting beautiful, sari-clad women, primarily from Maharashtra. Dixit, a Maharashtrian from Mumbai, was chosen for her role because of her talent, beauty and her similar appearance to Ganga. Ajay Devgan has been signed to play Varma.
Dixit has decided to do only one film per year, as she now resides in Los Angeles with her husband, Dr. Sriram Nene, and their two young sons, Areen and Rayan. Prior to her marriage in 1999, Dixit was India's number one leading lady, achieving critical and commercial fame with such movies as Devdas (2002), Dil to Pagal Hai (1997), Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994), Khalnayak (1993), and Tezaab (1988). These films, along with hundreds of other hit Bollywood films are available, brought to your mailbox, by Zip.ca.
