Noman's Music :: The Sea Within

Noman Siddiqui is a Toronto based New Media consultant, events manager and a music artist whose interest in music spans from Classical Eastern, Spiritual to World and New Age music.

Through his music, Noman hopes to inspire the mind and soul by reflecting on sublime sound, (which is all around us) through resonance, harmony and vibration. He finds his muse in the changing rhythm of raindrops, in the high pitch of winds and even in the inspirational silence of a pause.

Noman has performed and collaborated with artists at venues like CNE, Rogers Center, Harbour Front Center, Dundas Square, Lula Lounge and the ROM. He is also an active member of the Toronto based SAMA (Sacred Arts and Music Alliance) ensemble.

Genre of Noman’s music
I would define my music with its direct relation to my root music inspirations, which lay in Eastern Classical, Sufi, New Age and World Music. I consider it as more of a sharing tool rather than performance based.

Inspirations behind Noman’s music
I believe that music can be one of the most creative mediums for expressing emotions and channeling your inspirations, visions, character, dreams, and temper (anger or calmness) in an audible and visual/imaginative format. It is like creating and keeping records of your varied state of mind and soul, which is affected in different ways by the events and circumstances around you.

Sometimes these records are bitter and painful, and then joyful and uplifting at times, yet they are all part of one, inseparable from each other. I have always been inspired by personalities and artists who have spent voluminous amount of time learning and practicing this art of channeling emotions, may it be through writing, music, poetry or even by standing up for what they believe in. Few of the composers/philosophers that have really inspired and influenced me include: Rumi, Amir Khusrou, Vangelis, Abida Parveen, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Ashfaq Ahmed, Enya, A.R. Rahman, Franz Schubert and Michael Brook, to name a few.

Goals through Sea Within
Through music I hope to address anyone (including myself) who longs to explore an inner world that lies within us and is profound and vivid enough to connect you with everything around you. This goal is achieved if and when my song can do the same for me as a listener. It usually does not impact me if it is immersed with overwhelmingly loud drumbeats, or cacophony of instruments. Once I am in a realm where I am connected to the inner being, it is then easier to compose and discover music through One divine inspiration. Like Rumi said "The flute player puts breath into a flute, and who makes the music? Not the flute. The Flute player!"

Sea Within will be Noman's second music album, followed by Aether, released in 2007.
