Mosaic: South Asian Heritage Fest of Mississauga
Now in its 6th successful year Mosaic - the South Asian Heritage Festival of Mississauga is bigger and better than ever before. RBC Mosaic 2011 is presenting a very impressive and undoubtedly the best line up of this season presenting more than 26 hours of entertainment on main stage showcasing some of the most popular international and local artists and performers.
The main stage will remain active from 11:00am to 11:00pm on Saturday, July 9th and from noon to 9:00pm on Sunday, July 10th. This year's headliners lineup includes Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan, Pride of Performance winning singer, who has made a big name for himself in singing for Bollywood (Patiala House) as well as impressive Coke Studio appearances as a regular, and Sayein Zahoor, BBC world Music artist of the year 2006, who is a Pakistani folk singing sensation. Both appear in their debut appearance in Mississauga at RBC Mosaic 2011! Also debuting is Enkarma from Vancouver and H. Dhami headlining for Sunday, July 10th concluding with Punjabi Dhamaka with Luv to Bhang.
Qawalli and Afghani folk music by Syed Mushfaq Hussain and his ensemble from Ottawa, Goa Amigos and regular Saturday grand Finale by Shiamak Indo Jazz dance. Nachan Ge Sari Raat dance competition has gained a huge following and in its third year Sunday afternoon will be the excitmernt of winning one of the most exciting dance competitions in GTA. The Festival is also proud to present Desi's Rock, first pop and rock six hour concert with talented local bands including Juno and Marty Nominated Zameer, and Kazak, Swaras, Nawtik and Sing Bandana Singh at the Amphitheatre on Saturday, July 9th at 11:00am till 6:00pm. Theatre is presented by Limitless Productions directed by Ashima Suri. and Fashion show by Shabis choreographed by Tahira Haq!
Shafqat Amanat Ali khan belongs to the sixth generation of illustrious Patiala Gharana of Gaiki/ singing tradition. President of Pakistan’s Pride of Performance winner, Shafqat has undertaken this project to specially bring to light the traditions and spirit of music from Pakistan and enhance its character as a country steeped in culture and art. Shafqat has proudly contributed to the musical treasure of Indian cinema as well, rendering to many popular Bollywood films as a playback singer and is nominated for the prestigious 2011 IIFA awards held in Toronto as well. H. Dhami, protégée of famed Palvinder Dhami, is the hottest young generation of Bhangra music and Punjabi singing. Based in UK Hartinder Dhami has become best known for his uniqe bold sound and was declared Best Newcomer by UK Asian Music Awards in 2008. RBC Mosaic is greatful to Manj and RDB productions for their collaboration in securing H. Dhami for this performance at the Festival. Dhami will rip up the stage for Punjabi Dhamaka on July 10 at 6:30pm.
