Media for Global Professionals at Sheridan College

Media for Global Professionals breaks new ground by breaking down old boundaries. The first media program of its type in Canada, it celebrates diversity in both the cultural and technological senses - and channels graduates into the journalism and media careers of the future. After just a year of intensive study, you'll be well equipped for the brave new world of online media, ready to tell new stories to new audiences locally and internationally.

Designed for working professionals and students with a university degree or college diploma, the program provides direct, in-depth experience with a range of Web 2.0 technologies. You will:
  • Create blogs, wikis and podcasts
  • Learn to use social media
  • Work with digital storytelling
You’ll also learn the fundamentals of “entrepreneurial journalism,” a new model that combines traditional freelance approaches with the self-publishing, self-broadcasting possibilities of digital media and Internet journalism.

Just as important, Media for Global Professionals takes a broad international perspective. You’ll examine Canada’s increasingly diverse population and its changing role in the world via courses on diversity, global conflict and cultural studies. An outgrowth of the acclaimed Canadian Journalism for Internationally Trained Writers Program, this new media program reaches out not only to recent immigrants but also to children of immigrants and Canadians with a global outlook.

In an era of cultural and technological convergence, adaptability is the key to a successful media career. Media for Global Professionals provides unique new ways to help you adapt and thrive.

Sheridan Media for Global Professionals graduates will have a broad range of options to enter online journalism and digital media careers. They will be equipped for freelance media careers that combine traditional and online journalism, or for full-time employment in public relations, communications and related fields.
