Kalanidhi Spring Festival of Indian Dance
Sudha Khandwani of Kala Nidhi Fine Arts of Canada presents ?Contemporary Choreography in Indian Dance Festival and Symposium, Part 2? March 15 ? 20, 2011 at the Fleck Dance Theatre, Harbourfront Centre & Primrose Hotel in Toronto.
Performance Highlights – March 16th to 19th:
Canada
- “Ipsita Nova” (Canada) – Toronto dancer Nova Bhattacharya presents her Dora nominated performance of “Calm Abiding”, with choreography by José Navas.
- “inDance” (Canada) – Always startling Toronto dancer, choreographer Hari Krishnan presents the world premiere of “Quick Sand”
- “Sudeshna Maulik” – (Canada) – Montreal Kathak dancer Sudeshna Maulik performs a Kathak Swaroop in honour of her guru Kumudini Lakhia.
- “Pratibha Arts” dancer, singer, choreographer “Bageshree Vase” with perform two Kathak works “Moonlight” and “Yoga” (featuring dancers Malgorzata Nowacka and Tyler Gledhill).
- “Usha Kala Niketan” (Edmonton, Canada)
- Chhandam Dance Company and Toronto Table Ensemble (Canada) – Toronto’s Joanna De Souza and Ritesh Das bring live music and contemporary Kathak dance in “Sangeet”
England
- “Sristi Nina Rajarani Dance Creations” (UK) England’s award-winning contemporary Indian dance company presents “Quick!” and “Bend It!” with live music provided by Sri Lankan dance vocalist Y.Yadavan
India
- “Sadhya” (India) - Mayurbhanj Chhau dancer choreographer Santosh Nair returns to Toronto with his company “Sadhya” in a performance of Game of Dice.
- “Kadamb” (India) Padma Bhushan Kumudini Lakhia brings a large dance ensemble to perform three of her groundbreaking contemporary works featuring recorded vocals by India’s famous “Gundecha Brothers.

Symposium – March 19 & 20
Join the Festival performers as they discuss their unique processes and individual journeys into creating contemporary choreographic works. Learn about the legendary contemporary choreographer, dancer and mentor Padma Bhushan Kumudini Lakhia as we pay tribute to her pioneering career in contemporary Indian dance. Attendance is free with Festival performance ticket stub or $10 each day.
