Dancemakers’ 2011-2012 season officially kicks-off at the Dancemakers Centre for Creation, in the Distillery Historic District, with two new works by Jacob Zimmer and Nova Bhattacharya. Jacob and Nova mixed bill will feature the Dancemakers resident company of dancers, Robert Abubo, Amanda Acorn, Kate Holden and Simon Renaud, and guest artist Pierre-Marc Ouellette.

Dancer, choreographer, and institution builder Menaka Thakkar will turn 70 years old (March 3rd) and her school Nrtyakala – Academy of Classical Indian Dance will mark 40 years in Canada. The celebration begins November 11 and 12 at Fleck Dance Theatre with three performances by the Menaka Thakkar Dance Company of “In the Further Soil” followed by a special solo performance by Menaka Thakkar.
