From Reel Stars to Real Stars
Learning dance the Shiamak way!
The man never stops! A day after putting on one of Toronto’s most spectacular shows at IIFA 2011, Shiamak Davar was up and about at a master class for his Toronto students. Shiamak made the shift from reel stars to his real stars seamlessly giving local dance enthusiasts the rare opportunity to learn from the legend himself.
IIFA 2011 had Shiamak’s magical touch and as always he upped the style quotient this year as well. Bigger, better and grander, each act was breathtaking and spoke a hidden language of the soul. With the biggest Bollywood stars learning dance from Shiamak, it is the real stars in his classes that inspire him the most. "I’m blessed with the gift of performing arts and there is no better satisfaction than sharing this gift with my students. My classes are attended by little toddlers and grandparents alike, so it makes my soul dance to see them happy and learn in a fun environment," says an exuberant Davar.
Shiamak’s master class was the best gift his students could have asked for after being inspired by his dance company at the award ceremony. There is a growing interest in Shiamak’s style of contemporary dance form; a unique blend of ballet and jazz technique with traditional Indian movements that speaks a global language. A challenging style that requires immense focus on technique and training, Shiamak feels a dedicated student can master this one and shine both on and off a large stage like the IIFAs. The master class received an over whelming response with students grabbing this opportunity. Teaching for over seven hours straight, Shiamak aimed to make students more aware of their technique and dancing skills. Every student went home with a bundle of knowledge and a renewed perspective not only on dance but life as well! “I have watched Shiamak’s choreography in movies and shows and always wanted to be a part of his classes. His instructors are a true reflection of him and this makes his classes special," said a dance enthusiast. A parent whose 4-year-old daughter attends Shiamak’s classes also commented, “My daughter was extremely shy, but these classes have not only honed her dancing skills but also made her more confident. The stress on technique from a young age will only help my daughter become a star in the future!”
Having embarked upon a journey two decades ago, he had a vision to change people’s perception of dance, creating benchmarks and setting new standards for performing arts. Shiamak is on a mission to educate the world with the joy of dancing, a mission to entertain audiences with his creative brilliance, and to empower people with his belief that if you have the will, you’ll always triumph. "Toronto is where I started from in Canada and I have students who have stood by me from the time of its inception. People from all walks of life and all ethnicities come to the classes to get a feel of the Indian culture. It is this love for my students that makes me want to teach them and share my gift. The energy here is inspiring and students here are innately hard working," says Shiamak.
