desiFEST 2011: Artist Line-Up
desiFEST, Canada's South Asian Festival , will be celebrating its 5th year anniversary on Saturday, May 28th, 2011, at Yonge & Dundas Square in Toronto, ON. Check out who will be rocking the stage at this year's event.
Raang Dance Team (Garba team)
• Raang is from an Indian community group, called Bharatiya Culture Association of Ontario• Raang began performing at annual Diwali programs, and as they became older, so did their passion to dance
• Performing a variety of Indian dances, such as Bharatnatyam and Gujarati Folk all the way to modern Bollywood
• Raang won 1st place in Senior Folk Dance at the 2010 Federation of Gujurati Association Garba/Rass Competition
Shahid Ali Khan
• His first self titled album released in November 2006
• Studied and performed with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Appeared on OMNI’s “Chardi Kalaa
• Appeared on OMNI's "Chardi Kalaa"
Swaras
• Swaras’ music is based on amalgamating World Music with eastern classical vocals and western instruments, along with the addition to add a specialized country’s instrument with each composition
• Swaras provided the musical score for a short film called “Celebrate”
• Hit track “Jo Tum Kaho” has been in rotation on radio stations throughout Pakistan, India, UK, USA, UAE, Luxembourg and Canada
