Carassauga

Be sure to be on hand to witness a spectacular 25h Anniversary Opening Ceremony celebrating the BMO Bank of Montreal Carassauga Festival of Cultures. It is a one-of-a kind show you and your family won?t want to miss!

Kicking off three days of multicultural fun, food and entertainment, the Opening Ceremony will feature an inspiring Parade of Nations, a cultural dance performance, as well as great musical guests. This year we are proud to welcome the amazing Michael Burgess (of Les Miserables fame) at 7:30 p.m. -- plus a very special performance by a three time Juno award winner, Liberty Silver at 10:00 p.m.

Honourable Mayor Hazel McCallion and other dignitaries bringing greetings at the Opening Ceremony.

The BMO Bank of Montreal Carassauga Festival of Cultures is Ontario’s largest – and Canada’s second largest – multicultural festival. Now celebrating its 25th Anniversary, Carassauga 2010 literally offers many new and exciting additions!

More Nations. More Fun.

This year we have more countries represented than ever before, with the total number now at 68 countries which will be represented at 31 pavilions.  Each country will celebrate their proud heritage through inspiring performances, vibrant costumes and delicious food.

Many of the pavilions will be consolidated in the area in and around the Hershey Centre. This will allow visitors to reach more pavilions over the weekend and take in everything the festival has to offer. There will be 29 countries showcased at the Hershey Centre, located in the Community Rinks building, Main Bowl, SportZone and outdoor area.

Fun and New for Kids
Be sure to bring your kids this year! This year’s Festival features a new Kids Zone located inside the Hershey Centre SportZone on the large indoor soccer field.  Activities include BMO soccer demonstrations, face painting and performances by popular children’s entertainer, Lenny Graf.

Saturday Evening Special Guest
On Saturday evening, come out and hear Mississauga’s own Suzie McNeil.  You may remember Suzie as the last woman standing in the 2005 hit reality series Rockstar:INXS.  Since then, she has released two albums in Canada with several top 10 hits…  including the Gold selling 'Supergirl' and the Olympic inspired 'Believe' which Suzie performed at the Closing Ceremonies for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

Carassauga – Something to truly Celebrate
How can you visit Africa, Italy, India, Thailand, Portugal … and even the French Creole Islands in one weekend? All you need is a sense of culinary and culture adventure, and a Carassauga Passport. There is truly something for everyone to celebrate and enjoy.

Jack Prazeres, Chair of Carassauga’s Board of Directors, believes the most interesting part of planning the Festival is witnessing people from so many countries together in the same room. “It is the most amazing feeling to be the Chair of a festival that can put together this many cultural groups and work in harmony.”
