Canadian Cancer Society Organization

The Canadian Cancer Society is a national, community-based organization of volunteers whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer.

Thanks to the work of our volunteers and staff and the generosity of our donors, the Canadian Cancer Society is leading the way in the fight against cancer.

We are thrilled to be hosting the 2nd Annual 2010 South Asian Gala for Cancer Research on Friday, October 12, 2010 at Moon Light Convention Centre in Mississauga. The dollars raised from this event will help us in the fight against cancer!  Cancer prevention is a top priority for the Canadian Cancer Society.

The organization continues to play a leadership role in keeping Canadians informed about healthy living, as well as collaborating on building public policies and programs related to early detection and screening, obesity and physical inactivity, sun safety and tobacco control, which will lead to lower rates of cancer in future.

Brochures are available throughout all our local offices for people to come and help educate themselves on risk factors as well as our prevention series.  The Canadian Cancer Society advocates for healthy public policies on behalf of Canadians and people living with cancer. As a result of the Society’s leading advocacy efforts, it is positively influencing government and decision makers to pass policies that can help reduce the public’s risk of developing cancer and improve the lives of people affected by cancer.

The Canadian Cancer Society provides many different support services for people living with cancer. With the dollars raised at this event as well as many others, we are able to do so much more than research; we are able to offer support.

The Society’s peer support program matches recently diagnosed cancer patients or caregivers with a trained volunteer who understands what it is like to live with cancer. More than 600 peer support volunteers help hundreds of people across Ontario cope with a cancer diagnosis. The society also offers support groups in many communities across Ontario.

Canadian Cancer Society volunteer drivers’ help people get to and from cancer-related care who can’t get there on their own. Last year, our volunteers drove more than 18,000 Ontarians to more than 100,000 treatment appointments.

Canadian Cancer Society volunteers offer support in cancer centres, lodges and hospitals for people attending appointments. Society volunteers help in a number of ways, such as providing comfort to people who may be waiting for or receiving treatment or helping people find their way to their appointments.

The Canadian Cancer Society is thrilled for the Gala to take place next month on Friday November 12th. We look forward to a brighter and healthier future where know Canadian fears cancer. Your support matters FIGHT BACK! Call 905-451-4460 for more information on the Gala.
