Box Grove Lions Club, Markham
On May 12, 2010, inspired by District A16 18W lions past zone chair Lion Gobind Sharma, organizer of the club, and a few families joined together and chartered The Box Grove Lions, a family Lions Club in Markham to serve the growing community in south east Markham.
The Box Grove Lions Club (sponsored by Milliken Mills Lions) is part of the Lions Clubs International Association – the world’s largest service club association with over 47,000 clubs and over 1.3 million members worldwide.
Founded in 1917, the Vision of Lions Clubs is to be the global leader in community and international humanitarian services. Our Mission is to EMPOWER volunteers to serve their communities meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs.
Our motto is “WE SERVE”. We Give Sight; We Support Youth Programs, We Provide Disaster Relief: We Combat Disability, We support Health Programs: Sight, Mental, Diabetes We provide Vision and Hearing screening for kids.
Box Grove Lions believes in families, volunteering and “Building Healthy Communities Together”. BGLC has adopted Markham Stouffville Hospital’s Mental Health Program as charity of choice for the next few years. The second leading cause of disability and premature death in Canada, mental illness affects one in every five Canadians. BGLC raised and donated $4,381 to
Markham Stouffville Hospital at its charter night held on September 19, 2010.
