The key highlights of the event were some amazing cricket on display. The event commenced with a game between CIBC Cricket team and Ajax Cricket Club and was won by Ajax Cricket Club. There was a children’s / youth game subsequent to this followed by an exciting playoff between Ajax cricket club and Asapient-Thunderbolts team with the former team chasing down a huge score of 116 runs set by the latter team. There were some amazing display of stroke play from both teams and trading blows and blasting away sixes and fours all across the ground while there was exciting and roaring Bollywood style music being played in the background by the DJ matching every bit of the action happening in the middle.
Both teams Ajax Cricket Club and Asapient-Thunderbolts progressed to the finals of the event on the back of their amazing overall performances. The first half of the finals of this tournament showcased some awe inspiring and swashbuckling knock off the blade of Asapient-Thunderbolts opening batsman – Sarab, who went on to score the fastest 50 by any batsman in this format. He barely needed 9 deliveries to score a half century and piled up 76 runs by the time he was dismissed by Ajax CC. Earlier, Asapient-Thunderbolts team won the toss for the third time in a row and chose to bat first. The final score tally for Asapient-Thunderbolts was 133 runs which was also the highest in the tournament and the Ajax CC were never given any opportunity to recover or to come anywhere closer to the chase after losing some early wickets, owing to some tight bowling and fielding on display by Asapient-Thunderbolts team, who eventually came out victorious and collected the winning cup of the 2nd annual Ajax Mayor’s cricket festival.
The festival culminated with the giving away of awards by the guest of honor, MPP of Ajax-Pickering, Joe Dickson, who joined the proceedings in the latter half of the day to felicitate and address the participants and the gathering to preside over the awards ceremony and officially close off the event. The honorable MPP – Joe, commended the efforts of Corporate Canada Cricket Club while also appreciating the presenting sponsor CIBC, Darrell Dietz, for their continued association and support with C4 to bring such great events to the local community.
C4 looks forward to bringing back the festival to the town of Ajax in the summer of 2013 and continue to contribute towards the growth of this sport and the camaraderie in the local community.
